Understanding the Rituals

What Is a Homam and a Yagam?

A homam is a Vedic fire ritual in which offerings are made into a consecrated agni (sacred fire) while specific mantras are chanted, invoking a deity's grace on behalf of the devotee. At Sree Bagalamukhi Devi Temple, homams such as the Maha Ganapathi Homam and Thila Homam are performed regularly and typically last one to two hours.

A yagam is a larger, multi-stage fire ceremony — more elaborate than a homam, often spanning several hours through a longer sequence of offerings. The Bagalamukhi Sarva Dosha Shanti Yagam is performed every Amavasya evening and the Maha Kubera Dhana Akarshana Yagam every Poornima. Both homams and yagams can be booked online, with your sankalp recited in your name and gothram, and attended live over the temple's livestream.

Questions Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything devotees ask before booking a homam or yagam at Sree Bagalamukhi Devi Temple.

How do I book a homam online at Sree Bagalamukhi Devi Temple?
Booking takes three steps — choose your homam or yagam, enter your devotee details (name, gothram, nakshatra, and purpose), and confirm. The temple sends an email confirmation with a live darshan link so you can attend the ritual from anywhere in the world.
Which homams and yagams can I book online?
Five rituals can be booked directly: Maha Ganapathi Homam (daily), Thila Homam (every Amavasya), Bagalamukhi Sarva Dosha Shanti Yagam (every Amavasya evening), Maha Kubera Dhana Akarshana Yagam (every Poornima), and Agni Hotra Yagam (daily). Parihara homams are arranged after a consultation with Guruji.
What is Thila Homam and when is it performed?
Thila Homam is a Pithru ritual offered for the peace of departed ancestors. At Sree Bagalamukhi Devi Temple it is performed on every Amavasya morning. You book the sankalp with the ancestor's name and gothram and receive a live darshan link.
What is the Bagalamukhi Sarva Dosha Shanti Yagam?
It is a major yagam invoking Sree Bagalamukhi Devi to remove sarva dosha — obstacles, litigation, enemy trouble, and negative influences. It is performed on every Amavasya evening, and your name and gothram are recited aloud during the sankalp.
Can I book a homam from outside India?
Yes. Devotees across Singapore, the Gulf, the US, the UK, and Australia book regularly. You complete the sankalp online with your gothram and nakshatra, attend live over the temple's YouTube livestream, and can receive prasadam by courier.
How is my sankalp confirmed after I book?
When you pay online, a confirmation email is sent to you automatically with the ritual date and the name and gothram to be recited. Bookings paid manually by UPI or bank transfer are verified by the Temple Office against our bank records before being confirmed. On the day of the homam you receive the live darshan link.
What details do I need to provide to book?
Your name, gothram, birth nakshatra, and the purpose of the sankalp. If you do not know your gothram or nakshatra, the temple office will help you determine them before the ritual.
Can I watch the homam performed live?
Yes. Every booked homam and yagam is streamed live from the temple's garbha graha on YouTube. Devotees who booked a sankalp see their name and gothram recited during the procedure and receive the livestream link on WhatsApp.
Can one booking cover my whole family?
Each sankalp is recited individually — one devotee's name, gothram and nakshatra per booking. To include more family members in the same homam, book a separate sankalp for each. All are offered together in that day's ritual.
